guardians of the light - sculptural award
Hillel Lodge Long-Term Care Home commissioned artist Rino to create a sculptural award that honours those who give of themselves in service of the residents.
The Guardians of the Light award sculpture depicts two hands sheltering a blue flame — the Eternal Light — representing the living essence of each resident: precious, irreplaceable, and worthy of protection. The rock-carved texture of the hands speaks to steady, selfless dedication shaped by time and devotion. The open form reflects the spirit of giving freely and without condition.
Rino generously donated the original piece to Hillel Lodge. He hand-crafted a limited series of twelve replicas, each signed and numbered. Three awards will be presented annually over four years. The first three awards were presented to recipients Evelyn Greenberg, Dr. Ralph Paroli and Ottawa Paramedics Service on May 26, 2026.
